On Friday 30 October, Powderfinger announced nine more reunion shows for November and December 2027, after all 300,000 tickets for the first 26 dates sold out in six days, according to ABC News.
The new run is called The Encore Run and adds stops in Hobart and Canberra, Rolling Stone Australia reported.
By comparison, the band’s 2010 farewell tour sold 220,000 tickets, the ABC reported.
Bernard Fanning gave the reason for the extra dates in the announcement.
“When we saw how many people missed out on tickets, we knew we couldn’t leave it there,” Fanning said, according to Rolling Stone Australia.
Darren Middleton spoke to the ABC’s Zan Rowe about the reaction. “The response was genuinely overwhelming,” he said.

The New Dates
The nine shows are spread across five cities, according to Rolling Stone Australia:
- Melbourne Park Oval, Melbourne: Friday 5 and Saturday 6 November 2027
- Cornelian Bay Oval, Hobart: Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 November 2027
- Sandalford Estate, Perth: Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 November 2027
- Stage 88, Canberra: Saturday 4 December 2027
- Brisbane Showgrounds, outdoors: Friday 10 and Saturday 11 December 2027
The outdoor tent format was inspired by Cold Chisel’s “Big Five-O” shows, the ABC reported.
Who Is Playing
Every support act confirmed for the new shows is Australian, Rolling Stone Australia reported. The list includes Ocean Alley, Violent Soho, The Living End, Ball Park Music, John Butler Trio, Something For Kate, Thelma Plum, DMA’S and You Am I.
Also named are Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, The Preatures, The Belair Lip Bombs, Luca Brasi, Full Flower Moon Band, South Summit, Carla Geneve, Banjo Lucia and Special Features.
The band is also partnering with triple j Unearthed to give emerging acts support slots, according to the ABC.
Why They Came Back
The lineup is Bernard Fanning, Darren Middleton, Ian Haug, John “JC” Collins and Jon Coghill, who split in 2010, the ABC reported.
They first seriously discussed a reunion in May 2025 with their manager, Paul Piticco, and the plan was kept under wraps through 18 months of “white lies” and clandestine meetings, according to the ABC. After a month to think it over, the band agreed on a Zoom call.
One of Fanning’s main reasons for reuniting was his children, who have never seen the band play, the ABC reported.
“We’re never very cool in our kids’ eyes,” Middleton said.
Fanning addressed the nostalgia question head on. “I’ll happily accept criticism that it’s a nostalgia tour, because we’re not making new music,” he said.
Three Powderfinger songs made the Hottest 100 of Australian Songs in 2025, a countdown voted mostly by 18 to 29-year-olds, according to the ABC. The ABC also cited a recent APRA AMCOS report that puts Australian music at just 8.4 per cent of local streaming.
Choosing the set will take some work. Fanning drafted a list of 22 “essentials” and said that is too long, while Middleton says the band will rotate a few set lists.
The band still votes on every major decision. Asked whether it is still a democracy, Fanning said, “Yes, unfortunately”.
Getting a Ticket
Presale for the new shows opens at 10am on Wednesday 4 November 2026, and general sale begins at 11am local time on Thursday 5 November 2026, according to Rolling Stone Australia.
Supports for the original 26 shows had not been announced as at 30 October.
